Components of the original tent—hand-sewn panels of waterproof sailcloth, stainless steel grommets, hand-milled native pine center and perimeter poles, geometric support patches, and festive flags—conveyed nautical flair. This experiment marked the beginning of an innovative shift in event aesthetics.
Steve’s sons, Tim and Matt, worked within both the tent and sail businesses while also learning the principles of their father’s trade. While Steve and Matt have produced hundreds of unique tents in their design and production facility at the Sperry Sails loft, Sperry Tents became a separate company in 1994.
Tim continues to grow Sperry Tents with operations now in Massachusetts, California, New Hampshire, Vermont, New Jersey, New York, Long Island, Connecticut, Virginia, and on Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.
Sperry Tents has provided an atmosphere of rustic elegance to a variety of locales, including Ontario, Maine, California, the Caribbean, and even England, where Tim’s own wedding was held in the summer of 2002.
